Sometimes the missing piece to success, whether in school or in employment goals, is support. The Learning Center provides people to support participants in their education and employment goals. If you or your child need someone to talk to or need extra help with learning a subject or skill, you can come to the Learning Center. This is for children and adults.
We started this Learning Center (and hope to have more hours and locations in the future) because the more we can help people learn how to critically think and accomplish their goals, the more people there will be that can help to fix the problems of the world. We like that idea and hope you do, too!
So far, every student that has participated in tutoring at our Learning Center has seen improvement in his/her grades and/or skills. Some of the students have seen significant improvements after just two sessions!
The Learning Center currently operates on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The center is located at Kempo Jujutsu Martial Arts Academy at 8929 Indianapolis Blvd. Highland, IN 46322. Kempo Jujutsu Martial Arts Academy has donated the space, but the program runs independently from the Academy. To schedule your initial appointment, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 773-597-7887.
How our tutoring works:
We are not only tutoring students, but we are trying to teach them to be excited about learning. We incorporate games, sports, and other activities (depending on the students’ interests) in order to keep the students interested and to reward them for putting extra effort into their learning by attending tutoring.
We offer tutoring to students grades K-12. This consists mostly of help with homework or particular issues with school. As of right now, we can help with most subjects except foreign languages (you can request Spanish help, but it will depend on our tutor base). Students can come in to get help for an hour on Fridays.
We can also help with certain college subjects, GED preparation, and other test preparation. We do not offer courses for GED or test preparation, but we can help point you in the right direction and help with certain subject material. Contact us to see how we can help.
How our employment help works:
There are many jobs that do not require a college education or long-term training. They just need to be taught by someone. We are offering a place where people can trade skills. This can be just to learn something new or to help open up employment opportunities. For example, if one person wants to learn skills to be a receptionist, they can come to the center and request help. They can also offer their own skills to someone else, perhaps they know how to change the oil in a car and can teach someone to do that. We all know how to do a lot of things that we do not think about teaching other people.
We can also help participants with tips for job searching, resume writing, interview preparation, etc.Let us know what you need and we will let you know how we can help.
The Learning Center runs on donations. For tutoring, participants can donate on a per session basis, whatever they can afford. The recommended donation is $5 per hour, but no one will be turned away because of money. If you are trading skills, then no donation is necessary, your teaching is the trade!
Volunteers and Interns:
For our volunteers, we try to offer as much as we can. We will provide refreshments while you’re here and we also offer training and workshops in different areas. Not only will you be tutoring, but you will get to break it up with games and activities. We are continuously looking for volunteers to help tutor all levels (grades K-12). You can let us know what grade levels you would be interested in tutoring. We are also looking for participants to help with job skill trading. Please contact us at email@example.com if you would like to help.
